Termites having wings (flying termites) are reproductive termites leaving the colonies to establish new colonies. These termites are not born randomly; it usually takes four years to reproduce flying termite. The time that flying termites leave the colonies bases on species, from spring to autumn. Depending on species, termites are 6 – 12 mm in length. Termites have two pairs of wing with equal size, mostly as twice as their bodies.

Their wings are pale, nearly transparent from gray to brown and there are some ribbed wings along to the front pair of wing. Some flying termites can be identified based on special ribbed structure. Most of subterranean termites only have two ribbed pigments in the front pair of wing whereas drywood termites and dampwood termites commonly have three ribbed pigments or more.

TERMITE DECIDUOUS

The termites shed their wings after separating from their colonies. In fact, the presence of many wings having the same size around the window sills is the only sign of separation.
Flying termites in our houses may be one of the termite infestation signs. Flying termites which belong to drywood termites also shed their wings. However, they do not usually invade in our house so that we cannot find their wings inside.

Because of small colony of drywood termites, the amount of flying termite is smaller than drywood termites, approximately 10 flying termites. With small quantity, you may not be attracted to these wings.

If you see their wing in your house, contact to Nano Vina to have recommendation and effective treatment.

SEPARATING OF TERMITE SEASON

Spring is a peak season of many subterranean termites. Subterranean termites consist of many species and they do not separate in the same time. (In contrast, dampwood termites and drywood termites mostly separate in summer). Commonly, they separate in ideal weather condition.

Separating of termite season happens in different time and depending on many elements. For example, some species prefer higher humidity than others. Separating of termite time can last several weeks. In addition, we have to depend on the age and maturity of colonies. Read Miniature society in termite colony.

When they do not reach the cetain age, most of subteranaen termite do not separate from their colony.
